Ami, Ramona – Canteen with Frog and Tadpoles

Ramona Ami (b. 1929)  was a daughter of Emma and Hale Adams.  She learned to make pottery from her sister, Marcella Kahe.  She was known for her use of traditional techniques, designs, and outdoor firing.  This jar is coil built and painted with bee-weed (black) and a red clay slip.  The jar has a wide shoulder and a short neck.  Around the top, it is painted with an Awatovi bird.  There are additional bird wings, cloud, and lightning designs.  The jar was traditionally fired so there are blushes on the surface.  It is signed on the bottom, “Ramona Ami”.  It is in very good with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
