Adams, Sadie – Jar with Bird Wings (1940s)

This is an early jar by Sadie Adams. The piece a round shoulder and a short neck with a tiny turned out rim. The top of the shoulder is painted with a series of four bird wings.  Each wing is painted with bee-weed (black) and polished red clay.  It is a fluid use of a traditional design.  It was traditionally fired to create the blushes on the surface.  The jar is signed on the bottom with her hallmark flower. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
